as much as riley wished she could say that things had gotten better on tour, they really hadn’t. her attitude had improved slightly, but she still wasn’t the happy and chipper riley that she had the potential to be. most of her day was spent running from set to set to catch a few pictures here and there. she’d gotten the chance to sit down and talk to a few bands too, which was a good thing. at the moment though, she was working on an article about being behind the scenes on the tour. so she’d spent a lot of time just hanging out, taking candid pictures, and watching people to see what they did while they weren’t on stage. obviously it was really easy for her to write about what down over dover was doing behind the scenes, but she needed more information on other bands. if all her articles were down over dover centered, then she was going to end up rewriting the same things over and over again, because there was only so much she could throw out about them. she needed to spend more time around the grounds, watching other bands and seeing what they did while they weren’t busy with fans or getting ready for sets.
that’s what brought riley out to the grounds today. her camera was looped around her neck, and as she walked she would snap a few pictures here and there. she wasn’t exactly sure where she was going or if she was even looking for anything specific. she just figured whatever she ended up seeing could be something useful. but it was too early in the day to see anything that wasn’t exactly typical. most of the bands were preparing for sets or signings, both topics that she’d covered quite well already. she wanted something a little more exciting than that. but most of those things happened at night, not during the day. at night after the tour had been wrapped up for the day, that was when everyone started having their little parties and hanging out. that’s what riley really needed, but seeing as she was stuck out in the day light for now, she figured she would make the most of it. for the first half of the day, she hung around the side stage and snapped photos of the bands set up their set and running onto the stage. after that she headed backstage and took pictures of the bands goofing off after their set.
still though, she felt rather bored with all of this stuff. so she headed out from backstage to the main area of the venue, where all the fans were roaming around trying to find the guys they all loved so dearly. every so often she’d see recognition on someone’s face when they saw her, but she could never tell if it was a good thing or a bad thing. people were still talking about her, and she knew that. they were always going to talk, and there was nothing she could really do about it. it just irritated her more than anything, because these people didn’t even know her. they just judged her because of who she was dating and who she was friends with. she knew that deep down, a lot of them only talked out of jealousy. but that didn’t really make it any easier, because in her mind that just meant they were more likely to act on something. after all, jealousy turned people into monsters. that was a fact. sighing, she shook her head and started to walk away from the majority of fans that were now gathering and waiting for the next set to begin.
as she wandered around, she eventually found herself near the merch tents. this seemed like a good place to be, considering she hadn’t been over here yet. there was a lot of activity around her, activity that she should probably document for her article. all she needed to do was find a band that she didn’t have anything on yet, then she could just casually hang out in their merch tent and observe things. right? hopefully it would be that easy, and the band wouldn’t find her to be intrusive. that was the only thing she hated about her job. sometimes she felt like she was just being annoying and getting in the way of things. sure, her press pass basically let her go wherever she wanted to whenever she wanted to, but she didn’t want to be one of those people who abused her privileges. so she casually walked around, peaking into random tents and giving people small waves before continuing on her way. it wasn’t until she reached the all out of riot tent that she actually stopped, because this was one band that she had literally nothing on yet. if she were completely honest, she wasn’t a big fan of all out of riot. she had nothing against their music, nothing at all. but the people themselves seemed a little iffy in her book. they just weren’t the kind of people she liked to associate with a whole lot.
despite this, she stepped into the tent and looked around. there were a few people hanging around the tent, but it seemed mostly like fans. then riley really glanced around, and her eyes landed on all out of riot’s infamous roadie. ok, maybe she wasn’t really that infamous, but she put a sour taste in riley’s mouth all the same. out of everyone who talked about riley behind her back, this girl seemed to get under her skin the most. maybe it was because she was actually on tour, and she wasn’t just some typical jealous fan. no, this girl was just one of those people who liked to make herself seem bigger than she actually was. with a bit of scowl, riley rolled her eyes in ramsey’s general direction before turning her attention to the other people in the tent, snapping a few candids while she did.
