tired eyes stared aimlessly at the road sprawled out in front of her as delilah wilcox drove her little, black vw jetta home from the dog park. her two, well-mannered dogs were already napping in the backseat as she sipped her coffee while focusing on the drive. she was exhausted from the night before and the hangover she had, though minuscule, was pounding in her head. her temples throbbed and she attempted to rub them as she turned into the gated apartment complex. del wouldn't venture to say that she was super rich, but it was nice coming home to a high-end apartment that didn't look like someone had vandalized it the night before. that was the type of living delilah had never been accustomed to and she hoped, for her sake, that she would never have to. she glimpsed up at her rearview mirror to see her german shepherd and her french bulldog puppy curled up in the backseat, fighting one another for more room. a smile slowly made its appearance on her features before she turned into her usual parking spot in front of her apartment. the blond turned off the car and sat for a moment, slowly sipping her coffee. she ran a finger gently under her eyes to remove any makeup from the night before.
she was a mess and she knew she looked just as bad as she felt. she had spent the night partying with some friends and had stopped in to visit her boyfriend before returning home at almost three in the morning. she was then prompted by her two lovable companions to wake up at eight to play at the dog park that was a five minute drive away and now she was here. she looked at the clock on the dashboard and groaned softly. nine thirty. she wasn't even sure if her room mate was awake this early. her best friends and basically brother, cody, was probably the best room mate delilah could've asked for and she was thankful they got along so well and rarely fought, otherwise they could've had problems. she shrugged and unlocked the doors, pushing hers open and stretching her legs out. she balanced her coffee in one hand and bumped the door shut with her back before smiling at her two dogs waiting patiently for her to let them out. she was quick in releasing her dogs from the car and she watched them trot after one another towards the stairs leading to her apartment.
she laughed and shook her head, tossing her blond curls before locking the car and following them up the stairs, chuckling as they sat patiently by the door. she was thankful for two, well-behaved dogs that didn't make much noise to disturb her neighbors or her room mate. she slid her key into the lock and opened the door, letting the two pups into the apartment before she allowed herself to enter their domain. she quietly closed the door behind her and hung the two leashes up on the hooks by the front door. she surveyed the room ahead of her for signs of life. nothing looked like it had been touched and she figured cody was still asleep. she made her way into their rather spacious kitchen and opened the fridge, standing in front of it for a few moments before grabbing ingredients to cook breakfast for herself and her room mate.
since she had been in a relationship with chris, deli found herself cooking more and more and actually enjoying it. she found it relaxing and she was surprised she hadn't done it more often. she took another sip of her coffee before setting it down in the corner of the counter, keeping it out of reach of getting knocked over. she started the stove and grabbed a pan, setting it over the flames. she took her time cracking a few eggs and dumping them into a bowl to be scrambled. she watched as cody's dogs made their way over to where she was cooking and she grinned, putting a finger to her lips. she dropped a few slices of cheese on the floor for them. "I won't tell him if you won't," she teased. she turned back to her eggs, scrambling them before turning off the stove. she left them in the pan and covered them as she put a few slices of bread into the toaster. it wasn't long before she was dishing out the eggs and toast onto a plate for cody and one plate for herself. she set her cooking utensils into the sink before moving the plates onto their dining room table, putting down utensils and an empty cup for her room mate. she settled herself into her usual seat at the head of the table and opened up a magazine, going through the latest trends and gossip. del silently shoveled food into her mouth, not realizing how hungry she really was. "So this is what it's like to be a mother," she joked to the dogs laying down under and around the table. she shook her head and took a sip of her coffee before turning back to her magazine, hoping that her room mate would wake up soon.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(); width: 457px; padding-top: 30; padding-bottom: 30; -moz-border-radius: 35 35 35 35; -webkit-border-radius: 35 35 35 35;]hi cody was a pretty sexual dude. not even going to lie. it wasn't uncommon for him to bring girls back into the apartment at some ungodly hour of the night, tiptoeing around the silent dogs until they reached his room, and got to business. that was typical cody. though, he was oddly courteous about it. the only out of the ordinary thing he ever did was parade around in his underwear, but he didn't reserve that just for the apartment. somehow, he ended up doing that in the most public of all places, but whatever. the point was that he never did anything like that with delilah. the idea itself was ridiculous, and whenever people assumed he was dating her because they lived together completely threw him off. it wasn't any type of cut on del... but the number of times people had compared them as siblings made it all seem rather gross after a while. especially because cody and deli often played it up so much and went around acting like brother and sister. yeah. making out just wasn't in the picture for them. however, that was probably a good thing.
cody didn't really like to meddle with co-workers. it sort of just stirred the pot in all the wrong ways and sent mixed messages. plus, cody didn't really have the best mannerisms with women, and he would never want to end up on bad terms with sweet little del. she was truthfully his ray of sunshine after a cloudy day called 'work.' although they saw each other periodically throughout the office, it was still nice to come home to her in a different atmosphere. they could just unwind, relax, and be totally comfortable with each other on a weirdly perfect level. cody preferred not to question their 'relationship,' or lack there of, simply because you should never try to fix what isn't broken. he was very happy with their living situation, and especially the nice views he had from his bedroom window.
he had been dozing in and out as he rolled over just in time to see delilah pulling into the parking lot. he didn't even have to roll over to check the time, as she liked to stick to her dog park routine quite often. his own two dogs were only puppies, and rather fat ones at that. the twin corgies much preferred to loaf around on the cool hardwood floor than run about in grass taller than them. this was obviously no problem for cody, who found them to be pretty tuckered out after only three or four tosses of a tennis ball in the long hallway. he snuggled into his blankets for just a few more minutes; mentally preparing himself to wake up fully and join del. he hated when she walked on eggshells just so she wouldn't wake him, so he might as well just get up now instead.
he fell in and out of light sleep a few times more as he heard her reenter the apartment, paired with the sound of eight paws clicking around across the floor. then, came the sounds from the kitchen. cody heard his stomach growl with a fashion of one that only a teenage boy could muster. he rubbed his sleepy eyes before getting dressed and dragging himself out to the light of day. he was living the life. who cared if he got up a little bit later than most? he practically deserved it, really. after dealing with some unruly band members and the way they had acted at a recent meet and greet, he had been physically and mentally drained. he hated to be mean, play the bad guy, and reprimand people... but that was his day yesterday. today was going to be much better. the wafting smell of toast and eggs already confirmed that theory.
goooood morning, |
he chirped brightly to del, nodding with his greeting rather cheerily. how was your romp with the hounds? he asked as he settled into the spot set for him, extending his hand for a little bit of a predictable high five. this all looks awesome. you're awesome. it's all awesome... he trailed off, shaking his head as he bounced his legs up and down excitedly. although it wasn't really so much true morning anymore, cody was up and at 'em, and ready to go... partially all thanks to delilah. as usual. delilah was quiet as she flipped through her magazine and munched on her breakfast. she didn't want to wake up her best friend slash almost brother, cody. they shared a special relationship in delilah's life. since she moved out to la, he had been her best friend and partner in crime. at first, nothing really happened between them. they were simply co-workers. that is, until they started hanging out and growing closer. cody grew on delilah and she was thankful for everything he did for her. they partied, they hung out, they became best friends. soon enough, they moved into an apartment together and delilah loved the fact that she could share an apartment with someone who was basically a brother to her. growing up, delilah didn't have siblings to share much with. though she loved being spoiled, loneliness constantly crept up on her throughout her childhood. everyone at the office saw the relationship, though they didn't think much of it. delilah and cody looked like they could be twins. with their bright, blond hair and the pretty, sharp eyes, no one thought anything of it. there were the occasional few who thought that by them living together, they were an item. however, delilah lived her own life and cody lived his, but they came home after work and shared their own personal time away from the office where deli wasn't chewing heads off for screw ups.
she heard her phone vibrate on the kitchen counter and she leaped out of her seat, reaching for her iphone that was showing several names of people trying to contact her. she cautiously made her way back to her seat, taking care not to trip over any of the dogs snoozing by the table. her eyes were glued to her phone as she sat down, instinctively reading her boyfriend's texts first. her heart pounded as she read his message before she quickly whipped up a response for him. delilah didn't take long to reply to the other messages before setting her phone back down on the table beside her plate. she felt guilty as she flipped through the magazine, trying to force the guilt out. she had hooked up with someone last night while at the party with her friends. though it usually didn't bother her, lately it had been. delilah loved her boyfriend, don't get her wrong, but she was afraid. she was used to people leaving her to fend for herself so she learned not to get too attached or take anyone too seriously.
she had expected chris to leave her, so to fight off being hurt first, she purposely hurt him. of course, that wasn't a fair argument, nor was it a good one. she cheated on him to push him away in the hopes that he'd leave before he could cheat on her. she shook her head and continued eating, hearing stirring coming from cody's bedroom. she looked up for a moment, taking in the set-up of their apartment. on one side of the long hallway was cody's room and bathroom. on the opposite end was delilah's room and bathroom. the bathrooms faced one another so it muffled out most of the sound from either bedroom, which was a nice thing. there were times that del brought home different boys to play with and she didn't particularly like cody knowing, though she was positive he knew about them. she didn't like to talk about it. she didn't like bringing up chris because she knew, deep down, what she was doing was wrong, but she didn't want to admit it.
it didn't take long before her best friend made his appearance. "Good morning to you, too," she laughed and continued eating. she set her magazine down and watched him as he plopped himself into his usual seat that delilah had set for him. "It was good. Reno was behaved as always, but Teddy got a little crazy with a few new dogs at the park," she laughed, motioning to the now calm french bull dog. teddy was her baby and she wouldn't let anything happen to him. it was as if reno could sense the protection over the smaller dog. the german shepherd would always follow him or get in the way of him and another dog trying to fight. she laughed as teddy rolled over onto his back, stretching out his paws as if on cue. she high-fived him back as usual and listened to him compliment her and the food. "Well thank you! I'm glad everything is as 'awesome' as you like it," she teased him, playfully ruffling his hair.
she finished off the last few bites of her breakfast and pushed herself away from the table, picking up her plate as she made her way to the sink, setting her plate down. she paused for a moment looking out the window and taking in the sight of the parking lot and the community tennis courts. she sighed contentedly for a second before she heard her phone buzz again. instantly, she snapped out of her thoughts and dove for her phone, sitting herself back down into her seat. her eyes scanned the message before responding to chris. god, this was harder than she imagined. she hated the guilt she felt, yet she wondered why he hadn't left her yet. she deserved it the way she treated him. she tossed the phone back down on the table and watched cody eat, taking a sip of her coffee as she did so.
"Sorry I came home so late last night. I got a little.....caught up," she apologized. she wasn't really sure why she was even saying sorry. she was twenty-two and it wasn't like she had a curfew. however, she wasn't one for sneaking in during the wee hours of the morning and trying to stay quiet. she couldn't stop thinking about her blue-eyed boyfriend. his face popped into her head like a photograph as she recalled the last time he found she cheated on him, yet he never left. he had to be crazy to stay with her and still love her despite all the shit she put him through. she felt her stomach drop just thinking about it. she was horrible to him. she turned back to cody and watched him eating before she turned back to her magazine. "I'm thankful that I can at least cook. Otherwise, you'd probably starve," she teased him with a grin. she flashed him her usual smile before turning the page of her magazine. her smile slowly faded as she read the title of the article. it was the reason why a celebrity couple was breaking up. he cheated. she left. something she was all too familiar with, except del was in the opposite role. she cheated. he usually left her. she liked being in control.
she couldn't take her eyes off the article as she continued reading, ignoring her phone vibrating. she knew it was chris, which made her heart pound even harder and her stomach churn. it didn't help that every time he texted or called, the screen showed him as "boyfriend(; <33". she furiously read further into the article and she was silent as the reading cotinued. "Am I bad person, Cody? I mean, I have to be literally killing Chris. And I know why I do it, but I can't stop. And it's justified in my mind, but it's not a very good justification," she spoke abruptly. her words sort of just poured out of her mouth. she probably just shocked her room mate, but she couldn't help herself. this was delilah when she got caught up in her thoughts and the only person to see her vulnerable side all the time was cody because he was basically her rock. without him in her life, delilah wasn't sure she would know how to function. it was a constant battle with delilah. though she never really told cody the full reason as to why she cheated, they both knew she cheated and usually just kept it to themselves, not really discussing it much. they had been room mates for almost three to four years, after all. he wasn't stupid. he had to know what was going on.

well, that's always good to hear that you didn't end up contracting rabies or something. he snickered playfully while easing his needy stomach. he laughed as she replied to his series of 'awesome' and shook his head at her, simply surprised she went along with him. cody often found his jokes going a little off the deep end, or his conversations in general. the fact that del even tried to keep him entertained was amazing. he leaned into her touch slightly as she mussed his hair and gave her his signature little smirk of approval. god, he was such a dog. he went right back to eating and thinking, until he saw her practically dive for her phone. he raised an eyebrow into his crazy, bed-fluffed hairline at the action and paused mid-chew to watch her curiously. the only time delilah got this jumpy was when it involved chris. cody might have been a little slow at times, but he wasn't stupid. and after all, three and a half years of rooming together didn't exactly make him blind to her behavior.
soon enough, she was back to looking at him and he was looking at her. not technically a staring contest... but it sort of felt like it. he just knew there was something going on, but he wasn't exactly sure how to get it out of her. thankfully, delilah did the work for him; practically explaining it all. she was out late, which told cody a lot. being in the business of working with and around people all day sort of taught him to read more deeply into things, and he knew she was feeling bad about it. why else would she be apologizing? i didn't even hear you come in, del. he shrugged and waved the apologetic words off. should he ask why she had been out so long, or did he just have to wait and see if she was willing to tell? he wasn't a prying person... just interested.
he laughed at her revelation, nodding in agreement as he swallowed the last bite of food. the best i can do is call for takeout, so i guess you're right./color] he decided to leave the other part alone. if she wanted to tell him, she would. he stood up to take his plate to the sink; shuffling his bare feet along sluggishly in the process. he was careful to maneuver around all the wagging dog tails and paws sprawled across the floor, though. i'm also pretty good at making ramen noodles, so i might be able to get on without you. his shoulders rose and fell teasingly. of course he needed her. the two depended on one another an odd amount, actually. he looked over his shoulder as he rinsed off his dish once he heard her phone vibrating. he paused slightly as he let the water warm up and was sucked into thought. why had she been so quick to answer earlier, and now she was just letting it keep on buzzing? his brow furrowed in a confused matter and his forehead wrinkled deeply before he went back to washing away.
her next words, however, stopped him in his tracks. he turned the faucet off slowly and turned around, drying his hands on the towel as he did so. you? he snorted. a bad person? he shook his head as he made his way back to the table and took his same seat. everyone makes mistakes, you know? you can't help it sometimes. he knew that he struggled with being faithful for a long time, so it wasn't like he was looking down on delilah or anything. he knew how she felt, and it sucked. a lot. i just don't understand why you always sabotage things with him. he said simply before leaning back slightly in his chair. he reached down to scoop one of his pups up off the floor and stroked her once in his lap. you make things so difficult for yourself, del. you do this shit, and then you feel guilty about it, but then you do it again. i don't get it. as long as she had a real relationship to fall back on, he didn't really get why she repeated this. he was never really into any serious relationships so he wouldn't know... but still. it just didn't make sense to him to keep hurting.
to be honest with you, i think you need to just decide what you want. he pointed out. it isn't fair to you or him to keep going back and forth. i don't know. he didn't want to seem too invasive or overbearing or anything like that. he just wanted to offer what little advice he had and hope it made some sort of sense to her. after all, she was always there for him when he needed her, so he at least better be able to offer some decent words of wisdom when she asked. right? 1033 WORDS FOR SAMI AS DELILAH ILY

there really wasn't much to be said about delilah and cody's relationship. the two were basically siblings. they fought, they got along, they were best friends. they almost always got along in the office and at home so why was it so hard for her to open up to him sometimes? it was delilah's sometimes shy tendencies and her extremely guarded personality that caused her to struggle to open up with him sometimes about things that were on her mind. however, it never took too long for delilah to finally come out with what she needed to say to cody. it had been her style since they met almost four years ago. the blond always found a way to bring up her problems with cody and he was always there to listen and offer her as much advice as he could, or little for that matter. she chuckled at his sly comment about rabies and shook her head, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, good thing," she replied sarcastically, a smirk crossing her lips.
she could feel his eyes burning into her as she leaped for her phone, replying back to chris as fast as possible. god, he was going to be pissed when he found out. that was delilah for you. every time she cheated she couldn't keep it from chris. she kind of used it as bait to dangle in front of her loving boyfriend. she almost dared him to leave her and delilah knew it wasn't right of her nor was it very healthy, relationship wise. chris didn't deserve it and she knew that if his sister, gretchen, found out about delilah's latest escapades, gretchen would probably kick delilah's ass. she sighed as she set her phone back down, bringing her eyes to meet his. they kind of stared at each other for a few minutes. she wondered if he could tell that she had gotten much sleep. it had been the trend for delilah lately. staying out late, partying, flirting, drinking, the occasional smoke, and then all the thoughts running through her mind as soon as her head hit her pillow at night. she hated that vicious cycle.
she was quiet as he waved off her words, not really caring. honestly, she couldn't even understand why she was apologizing. it wasn't like he was her father and she was sneaking in. she was twenty-two for christ's sake and she didn't need to tell people where she was going. she shook her head and sighed, leaning her head against her palm as she flipped through the magazine, continuing to scan the pages for something that would stand out to her. she felt her puppy nudging her foot and she looked down to see her german shepherd sitting patiently at her feet. she smiled meekly and reached her hand down to stroke the top of her dog's head, relaxing slightly as she continued through the magazine. she laughed at his response, turning in her chair to face him as he put his dishes away. "You can't live off of take-out and ramen forever. Eventually, you would need someone to cook a real meal for you," she teased him, winking.
she turned back to her magazine and continued flipping, slightly bored with it at this point. she ignored her phone, feeling her face burning with guilt and stress. she knew exactly what he was going to say. where were you last night? and then she'd have to do it again like every other fucking night. she'd have to tell him she cheated on him, made a mistake, was too drunk. any excuse she could come up with that sounded bad enough so maybe he'd leave. get out of her life. give her a reason to break up with him. it was sad, yes, but delilah was scared. all her life she had been abandoned by people and she was questioning why he was still with her after all the shit she did to him. she closed her eyes for a moment after reading more into the article. she could feel herself choking up slightly, but she forced her emotions away. she hated them. hated showing anything that wasn't happiness or anything remotely cheerful for that matter.
he sat back down beside her as he responded to her little revelation. she looked at him, feeling her face flush again. everyone makes mistakes. except for the fact that most usually learned from it and stopped repeating their mistake over and over. no one ever tried to force someone that loved them more than anything out of their lives...except for delilah. she watched him carefully as he scooped up one of his dogs into his lap and pet it. she remained silent as he finished talking. i think you need to decide what you want. that was just the problem. she didn't know what she wanted. she knew deep down she was madly in love with chris and he was the one for her, seeing as he put up with her and still loved her no matter what. however, she didn't want to fall in love and then wake up one morning to learn that he had up and left delilah. she didn't take heartbreak very well, which was what kept her away from relationships in the first place.
she tilted her head slightly, closing her eyes and trying to just loosen up her neck. there was a silence that hung above them and she could feel the slight tension in the room. she opened her mouth to say something, but she couldn't find the words yet. she instantly shut her mouth and closed the magazine, slumping a bit in her chair. her hand went back to the top of reno's head as she tried to calm herself down. delilah was stressed enough with work and taking care of her dogs and her friends. she always wanted to please, but sometimes forgot about herself in the mix. and then her mind thought back to last night. she stopped at chris' until about eleven and then she lied to him saying she was tired and wanted to go home. she went out to meet up with her friends and ended up going to a nice mansion party where she met a few guys and ended up hooking up with one of them.
nothing really happened between them besides a long makeout, but still. she knew chris didn't deserve it. she didn't deserve him, yet he was still there no matter what. she stared blankly into space, just thinking, cody's words sinking in to her mind. "I fucked up last night, Cody." she bluntly stated. she grabbed her phone and looked the message, confirming her thoughts. she knew exactly what he was going to say and when. she turned off the screen and set it down without responding back. not right now. she needed to clear her head and talking to chris wasn't going to help right now. "After I stopped at Chris' house, I went out with some friends to this mansion party and I didn't really drink, but I met a few guys and one was nice. We hooked up. I mean, nothing really happened, but we kissed. And the whole time, all I could think was 'This'll really piss of Chris.' I just don't..." she trailed off. she sighed and rested both her elbows on the table, pushing her face into the palms of her hands, shaking her head.
she was frustrated with herself and her reasons. she looked over at cody, half-expecting him to be so shocked by her, but she knew it wasn't going to faze him at all. she did this quite often, though she didn't bring it up that often. she did the whole cheating thing and they usually never talked about it. "I just don't get it. Why isn't he leaving? I do this because I'm just expecting him to walk out the door like every other guy and that way I hurt him, not the other way around. I know it sounds stupid, but I do it and I can't stop. I push him as far as I can try and he's still standing here. I know I love him, but I don't want to love him and then get abandoned like every other relationship I've had," she groaned, leaning her head back. she even knew she sounded stupid, yet she couldn't help it. this was stuff she shared only with cody and didn't dare tell anyone else. it was frustrating when she couldn't even justify her reasons for cheating, yet she continued."I sound so stupid," she grumbled quietly, resting her face back into the palms of her hands, mentally kicking herself in the ass. she peeked through her fingers at cody, scared of what he would say. she couldn't even bring herself to look at the phone sitting between the two of them.

seeing deli strive to reply within a millisecond sent the hair on cody's arms to rise. it just wasn't normal. he and delilah were both very serious about their jobs and the record company and all, but there had literally never been any time in the past such as this where it was necessarily to leap for the phone with such caliber. cody was far from a moron, and he knew that something in del's life was off kilter. granted, he knew no one was perfect, but he knew her that for del specifically, this wasn't typical behavior. lately, though, the petite blonde had been surprising him quite a bit with the increased adultery rates and what not. but hey, who was he to call her out on it? he was preaching to the choir, in a sense, because the both of them knew cody was rarely faithful to anyone. things could change, though. cody was just hoping that delilah would figure her shit out and pull herself out of this funk before things got too heavy to deal with any longer and she collapsed from the weight of it.
he shook his head heartily to disagree with her regarding all of the food. bullshit! he argued. i could live off of peanut butter and skittles if i wanted to and you can't do anything about it. he teased, sticking his nose up in the air with a snobby, haughty aura. he dropped the act just as quickly as he faked it in order to poke her playfully, and express he was only kidding. as if it weren't obvious already. you know i'm kidding. i totally need you around. you're like my oxygen or something, del. i swear. he was being real. jokes were set aside, for once. if deli wasn't here with him, he actually probably would be stuck starving; standing at the stove top while trying to figure out how to boil water. he was a nut, plain and simple. he pretended to fan himself off after she winked at him before babbling on in his crazy manner. i looooove you. he sing-songed, watching one of his puppies scamper away at the whiny pitch.
cody was genuinely worried about del. he knew things were going downhill, and he didn't want to see his sweet little blonde 'sister' of sorts in shambles. god forbid he'd have to ever see her cry again. it'd nearly break his heart, to be honest. living with someone really does create a unique bond that is only translatable to family terms in the end of it all. he simply wished that he was unlike her for once in this situation, so he would at least have some advice to offer. he was clueless, and the last thing he wanted was for delilah to snap back around and call him a hypocrite or something if his 'words of wisdom' fell flat or landed her in an even worse position. he didn't know what he would do.
her silence scared him. it either meant that she was actually listening to him and he was potentially getting his lackluster ideas through to her... or she was gone. she could be thinking about the situation, guilt tripping herself, or who even knew what else could be going on in her dreamy little head. cody certainly didn't know, and that was why he was suddenly being so serious. everyone fucks up, del. he repeated; watching her with big, sad eyes as she snatched up her phone once again. the pieces were beginning to fall together, and cody soon realized that this was another cheating issue. he sighed deeply, knowing this was going to get rough. he listened to her mile-per-minute speech before copying her actions momentarily. he rested his forehead in his palms; rubbing his temples and snowy head of hair in brief thought. his pup scrambled around excitedly on his lap, thinking it was some sort of peekaboo game, so cody sat back up, and prepared himself.
i don't get it. he shrugged, flabbergasted. you want to be with him, then you don't. del, figure it out, because you can't just keep giving this kid the run around because you're too much of a goody two-shoes to break things off with him. he had no intention of hurting her feelings, which he assumed she knew... but he still felt bad. he listened to her reasoning and sat silently for a bit, chewing on the inside of his lip as he mulled it over and strung his thoughts together the best that he could. usually, he was the one doing this to girls, but he wasn't interested in finding out a reason why he did that. not tonight, at least.
he reached across the corner of the table to take her hands in his. if you stop fucking around with his head, he won't leave you. especially if you two really do love each other. he's obviously into you if he still wants to be with you after all of the times you've done this to him, you know? he just hoped he was making some sense. any. at all.

she loved this about cody. absolutely loved that she could be anyone she wanted to be around cody and he would still only see her for her. no matter how many times she screwed up or fell on her face every day, he still saw the real deli. when she put up an act for everyone else, cody was one of the few who saw right through it and set her straight. that was one of the main things she loved about her blond-haired best friend. the second thing was how easily he could make her laugh. even on her worst days, delilah and cody could share a laugh and things would be okay, even if it was for a short period of time and only temporary. the happiness cody brought to her made some believe that they were in a relationship, but the happiness between cody and the happiness between chris were two completely different things. however, if she was forced to choose, she wouldn't have been able to. she needed both men in her life, even though she wasn't able to admit her need for chris. delilah depended on her boyfriend more than he really knew, though she knew she messed things up constantly with him.
cody was her lifesaver, though. when she needed help with chris, even if he didn't have much to say, cody would listen to her and try to comfort her. delilah wasn't one for water works very often, but cody had seen her maybe twice completely, flat out bawl like a baby and delilah hated that. she hated being seen as vulnerable in front of anyone, even her best friend. emotions were never something shared while delilah grew up and she certainly wasn't going to start sharing now, though cody was one of the only people that really saw any other emotion besides happiness or frustration. it was kind of like something special in a sense. getting to see the real, raw side of delilah when she wasn't trying to please everyone around her and make things right. she could feel herself beaming as he joked back with her.
she laughed and watched as he pushed his nose into the air and her curls shook once more. "Oh please. You would get bored of eating the same thing and come crawling back to me," she teased him. a chuckle escaped from her lips as he poked her and she instantly flinched, curling up slightly in her seat before returning to normal. his words made her blush slightly and she looked away, smiling. those words were the ones she needed to hear sometimes to keep her going. even though she was used to people leaving her, she knew cody would never leave her. they needed one another and he was the one person she knew would certainly never leave her. "Well, thank you! I'd die without you myself. I'd have no one to laugh with or at," she teased him, scrunching up her nose at him with a grin. she loved spending time with cody, especially times like this. lately, work had been slow and she got frustrated with the interns, but getting to come home to cody and their menagerie of animals made everything better for del.
another laugh erupted from her lips as he fake fanned himself after she winked at him. she rolled her eyes and leaned back, resting her feet up on the empty chair beside her. her eyes followed the dog that scampered away at the sound of his sing-song i love you. she bit her lip and folded her arms across her chest, taking him in. "Love you too....." she replied. "...Sometimes," she jokingly muttered under her breath. she absolutely loved teasing cody. well, anybody, really. there was just something about jokingly messing with someone and then getting to laugh about it afterwards that made delilah extremely cheerful. after her little revelation, she was silent and she could tell he was uncomfortable due to the silence as well. delilah absolutely hated this. there was no need for him to have to listen to her. it wasn't in the job description or anything, but she relied on cody to vent and she knew that if he had to vent, she would instantly be there. Everyone fucks up, del. well if that was the case, how come delilah couldn't see that? she felt like the only screw up most of the time. her eyes flickered to him and back as she noticed him doing the same, rubbing his temples. god, she felt guilty. not only did she cheat on chris...again, she was putting all this drama on cody and he didn't deserve it.
she looked at him as he spoke and she found herself unknowingly flinching at his words. she turned back to stare at the vase in the center of the table, trying to avert her gaze from him. the guilt was crushing her as she sat there and she played with her phone with one of her hands, turning it over on it's side over and over. she felt like a child being scolded for something bad, except this wasn't just a slap on the wrist. she could potentially lose one of the only men who really loved her more than she could ever imagine, but her fear got in between their relationship and she knew she was doing the wrong thing. she bit her lip, feeling it quiver slightly. she ran a hand through her hair and quickly folded them across her chest again. "I know, I know. I need to get my shit together," she finally replied with exasperation. she was mad at herself for this problem she had created.
she felt him take her hands in his and she brought her eyes to him, swinging her legs off the chair and leaning closer to him. his words were hitting her close to him and though her feelings weren't 'hurt' per se, she still felt guilty and awful for what she had done. she hung her head slightly, pulling her hands away from him and setting them down on the table. she kept her gaze glued to her fingers as she tapped on the table out of anxiety and frustration. "I don't deserve him. And you know me, Cody. I'm not used to anyone besides you sticking around. It's addicting, you know?" she replied quietly. she brought her gaze up to look him in the eye. she was frustrated and she couldn't keep herself from biting the inside of her cheek. there was a loss for words as she sat there for a moment before gathering herself to continue.
"I go to these parties and places and I see these guys and I just think, what if Chris up and leaves me tomorrow for no reason? Any one of these guys could probably take his spot and I might as well get a head start now. But then when I actually hook up with them...all I can think about is Chris. Which should be enough to stop me, I know, but I can't. I'm addicted to hurting him and I think sometimes I want to purposely hurt him so he knows what I went through," she finished quietly. she rested her face in the palms of her hands again, her heart pounding in her chest. she shook her head and avoided his gaze, biting her lip again. "God, I sound like a psychopath or a sadist. WHICH I'M NOT," she caught herself at the end. she sighed and leaned back in her chair, picking up her phone to text Chris back. she felt like the biggest bitch in the world, yet she replied to his text, forcing herself to be honest to him. that was the last she could do.
she set her phone back down and remained speechless, not knowing what to say. she went back into her trance-like state, staring at the flowers in the center of the table. she bit her lip, fixing her gaze on the petals of the flowers. she could feel reno pushing her furry head into her lap and she mindlessly stroked the top of her head, trying to remain as calm as possible. "I love him. But I don't want to let myself believe I need someone in my life. I've gotten by without anyone all this time. It's just what I'm used to," she added warily. she looked at him and realized her mistake. "I mean, besides you, of course. You're right. I can't stop messing with his head. I've got to try to break this stupid habit. I'm a horrible person," she groaned, leaning down to rest her head on top of reno's before planting a kiss on her dog's nose. she couldn't look at cody. not now, at least. she was embarrassed and humiliated and she felt like a stupid child.

you're right, |
he snickered. seeing her cheeks turn pink with his words made his grin turn into a smug one, and he relaxed with a sense of victory. he was always on a quest to make people blush, because he knew that it gave them something to think about later, and potentially take to heart. especially if it were compliments that made them redden in the first place. we'll keep each other alive, then. cody concluded with the suggestion of a shrug. he had to laugh as her nose scrunched up. i'm glad i can provide you with entertainment, he said matter-of-factly, not really minding whether people decided to laugh with him, or at him. it was laughing all the same, so who cared? definitely not cody. he was practically the king of making a fool out of himself, so it wasn't an issue of humility for him whatsoever. he clenched at his heart again with her 'cruel' words and shook his head. you're killing me, del. he 'sniffled,' play acting with her now. i give you my heart, and what do you do? you tear it apart and stomp on it. he slumped in his seat miserably. however, he was quick to gobble up a serious attitude once they began talking about her apparent mistakes. she still hadn't fully explained what she had done, so cody was mentally preparing himself for the worst. what she had owned up to didn't really seem like the end of the world, but once again, one had to consider cody's pure lack of relationship skills. adultery and cheating and whatnot was all too familiar for him, but he was always the perpetrator. he didn't know what it felt like to be coming from the other end, so it was a little hard for him to sympathize. he tried not to take sides, though. she said nothing which worried him a bit. del was usually one all for chatter, but her sudden silence had to mean she was in deep thought. cody couldn't exactly blame her, though, and didn't try to distract her from any epiphanies or revelations possibly in the making. he shook his head. you needed a kick in the butt, and i think this is it. you know? he tried to smile, though it was a weak attempt at best. don't let this be 'just another' night. change it and don't do it again? he suggested. cody was trying pretty desperately not to get too involved in this, emotionally or mentally. he didn't want to turn into a patronizing figure in del's mind. he wanted to be the fun loving dude with strange hair who was just there to laugh at. not a scolding wrist-slapper. you deserve the best, del. no matter what anyone else says; you do. his smile came easily that time, because his words were true. i think chris is perfect for you, but you can't just let your past conceptions get in the way of you two. it'll ruin things, as you already found out. he nodded in the direction of her phone, which was undoubtedly about to blow up tonight with one of their infamous arguments he heard so much about. really, he didn't mind helping del cope, but he didn't like to be stuck in the middle, either. nor did he want to accidentally put the wrong idea in delilah's head and be the one to blame for any relationship failure. cody hated to see del frustrated, but this was a pretty important thing to talk about. even if it did sting a little. you can't think like that. he said simply, petting his dog as it relaxed on his lap. if you assume he's going to leave you, he probably will. it's like going into things with a bad attitude. you're destined to fail if you think you're going to in the first place. he tried not to cross too many lines. he knew there was a few boundaries that he shouldn't cross, even as her best friend. he said simply shook his head at he sadist and psychopath comments; not even wanting to go into detail about what she was and wasn't. labels were the least of his concerns when she seemed to be on the verge of tears or a mental breakdown of some sort. this chat was long overdo, and he'd see to it that del got something out of it. you're not a horrible person. cody sighed. he had had plenty of talks like this, but usually they happened while he was coaching some party girl hunched over a toilet, puking her brains out while trying to convince herself she wasn't a slut. okay... so maybe this was nothing like that, but that was the last time he had been forced to give someone advice. oh well. he was trying. if you really love him, you should take it easy on the parties, and spend more time with him. he folded his hands in his lap beside his dog. does that make sense? because i'm just trying to help. i don't know what this love thing feels like, but don't let it go for some stupid reason like a whim that he's going to up and leave you. he isn't like everyone else, from what i've heard. [/div] 1098 WORDS FOR SAMI AS DELILAH SORRY I HAD NO MUSE :c
